Guljemal

The carpet was created as an experimental piece, recreating carpets using ancient technologies. The carpet precisely follows the sketch of a rug described by A. Bogolyubov in the album "Carpets of Central Asia" (Issue 1, St. Petersburg, 1908, Plate 4), which was purchased by Captain Randhner in Merv from Guljemal-Khan in the late 1890s. At the time of purchase, the carpet was about one hundred years old. Creating a carpet from hand-produced materials requires a fine balance between the warp, weft, and knotting thread, making it an indicator of high craftsmanship at all stages of its creation. Unique knotting methods used in the past by Turkmen weavers were applied. The dyeing of the threads was carried out using ancient technologies, using exclusively vegetation growing on the territory of Turkmenistan. In terms of execution technique, the carpet repeats the process of creating antique specimens of Teke carpets, which allows it to be classified as a collectible.
