Guljemal
The carpet was created as an experimental piece, recreating carpets using ancient technologies. The carpet precisely follows the sketch of a rug described by A. Bogolyubov in the album "Carpets of Central Asia" (Issue 1, St. Petersburg, 1908, Plate 4), which was purchased by Captain Randhner in Merv from Guljemal-Khan in the late 1890s. At the time of purchase, the carpet was about one hundred years old.
