Emreli
The presented carpet, decorated with eagle göls, reflects the ancient tradition of bird of prey symbolism in the region's culture. The earliest images of double-headed birds in Southern Turkmenistan are recorded on Eneolithic ceramics from the turn of the 4th–3rd millennia BCE. These images, executed in canonical eagle iconography, have deep roots in the region's culture. Considering the ethnogenesis of the Turkmen and the symbolism of their ancestors, it can be assumed that the distribution of this sign is connected to the system of bird ongons in Oghuz society, as well as the perception of the eagle as the state emblem of the Seljuks. The double-headed eagle, as a symbol of power and protection, is particularly characteristic of tribal groups formed in the Aral-Caspian zone.
